Your team
You will be part of the Information Governance Division in the Directorate General Secretariat. Our Directorate has about 60 staff providing services and tools to ensure ECB staff can access and draw fully on internal and external knowledge and information. Together with colleagues from across the Division, the Library team is currently designing a knowledge management programme, which will transform the library into a collaboration and knowledge hub. The hub will offer services that help to locate, share and re-use information, and will use new technologies to enhance the search experience.
In your role as a Legal Trainee, you will be part of a dynamic and service-oriented Library team of 11 members of staff responsible for supporting the ECB’s business areas in their research activities and for managing the library’s print and online collections. You will also be involved in library transformation activities, such as the implementation of the new library space concept, the development of training sessions on search skills, the design of new search solutions and other occasional activities.
You will work closely with the law librarian and with lawyers across the ECB, especially in the legal knowledge management team.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.
Your role
As a Legal Trainee you will:
- provide reference services and legal research support for the ECB’s lawyers using the library’s print resources and online legal databases;
- contribute to the design of business solutions for published information that help lawyers organise their information and turn it into intelligence;
- develop topic-based alerts and newsletters with filtered content to meet business and research needs of lawyers;
- help promote available library resources and services.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to gain experience in providing information services in an institutional environment and to gain insight into various legal topics related to the ECB’s activities. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a bachelor’s degree or higher in law and/or library sciences;
- excellent research and analytical skills;
- a good knowledge of EU law;
- an awareness of and interest in the role and functioning of the ECB;
- familiarity with legal databases for research purposes, including Lexis, Westlaw and EUR-Lex;
- a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- experience in providing library services or legal knowledge management services.
You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.
You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
