Your team

You will be part of the Governance and Transformation Services (GTS) Division, which acts as a cross functional service platform for the Chief Services Office (CSO). The CSO is responsible for more than 800 staff delivering internal services in the fields of administration, human resources, IT and finance.

The GTS Division has more than 50 staff providing horizontal services in the areas of communication, service delivery and optimisation, financial management, vendor and service management, and quality management. It is currently concentrating on transforming working methods in the CSO business areas, fostering collaborative and cross-functional approaches with a focus on flexibility, learning and results.

This traineeship opportunity is in the GTS Division’s Service Delivery team. You will join a dynamic team that works to improve the delivery of services across the ECB, for both IT and non-IT projects. We are continuously seeking to optimise the ECB’s project delivery culture and portfolio management, advising and supporting project managers and teams, project steering groups and the project steering committee.

Your role

As a trainee in the Service Delivery team, you will:
  • work independently and cooperatively on a wide range of quantitative and qualitative tasks;
  • support documentation preparation and analysis for ECB decision-making bodies in the areas of project and portfolio management; 
  • support project teams, from ideation to project completion, and assist with reviewing and validating project deliverables such as the business case and the project charter;
  • participate in quality improvement activities for ECB projects, based on data analysis, documentation review, and structuring problems using your initiative to solve them;
  • contribute to the automation and streamlining of processes;
  • update the relevant documentation used in project management practice.

This traineeship offers excellent opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge of project and portfolio management practices, while supporting ECB-wide projects in all business areas. You will work independently, support experienced team members in collaborative tasks, and present work to senior management. You will experience a steep learning curve, gaining soft and hard skills alike in a fast-moving and challenging environment.

Qualifications, experience and skills

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, finance, information technology, computer science, economics or another relevant field;
  • an ability to break down and solve problems through quantitative thinking;
  • advanced knowledge of the MS Office package;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  • knowledge of relevant project management standards (PM2, PMBOK or PRINCE2);
  • familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems (such as SAP) or project management software;
  • an understanding of the ECB’s mission, tasks and responsibilities.

You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

Further information

Traineeship of between 6 and 12 months in total. The earliest possible start date is 1 July 2023.

The recruitment process for this position will include a pre-recorded video interview in the pre selection phase and – if you are invited to participate in the subsequent selection phase – a remote written exercise and an online interview. 

If you are not selected for this position but are still considered suitable, you will be placed on a reserve list for 12 months from the closing date for applications, from which you might be considered for other traineeship positions within the ECB.
