Your team

You will be part of the Campaigns and Civil Society team in the Directorate General Communications. Our Directorate General has around 200 staff responsible for communicating with the public, media and staff members about the ECB’s work and mission. We are currently working on a number of exciting initiatives aimed at making the ECB more accessible to different audiences. 

In your role as Public Outreach Expert, you will be part of a team of seven members of staff responsible for large-scale public communications campaigns, civil society engagement and initiatives aimed at ensuring the ECB is understood by the general public. In this role, you will work closely with other teams in the Directorate General, as well as with external stakeholders such as creative agencies, EU institutions and civil society organisations.

Your role

As a Public Outreach Expert you will:
  • manage, across the euro area, innovative marketing campaigns aimed at non-central banking experts as well as the general public and comprising paid advertising, digital marketing, social media outreach and partnerships with social media influencers;
  • foster dialogue with civil society organisations by organising regular seminars and other types of interaction;
  • identify opportunities for interviews with Executive Board members on popular TV shows, working alongside TV producers to ensure smooth planning;
  • coordinate projects aimed at younger audiences, such as the Generation €uro Student’s Award;
  • develop partnerships with public institutions, private entities and independent content producers aimed at promoting the work of the ECB among the general public;
  • research and draft briefings for Executive Board members, ensuring accuracy and clarity of content.

You will work closely with external stakeholders including other EU institutions, creative agencies, civil society organisations, universities and social media influencers. Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in marketing, communications, public relations, advertising or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ professional experience (other than as a trainee or intern) in communications, marketing or advertising; 
  • in-depth knowledge of marketing and advertising principles, social media platforms and digital marketing including, for example, digital analytics, search engine optimisation and search engine marketing;
  • a track record in writing creative briefs for agencies and developing concepts for advertising campaigns that capture an audience’s interest by communicating empathy and emotion;
  • familiarity with video and audio production processes;
  • in-depth knowledge of current civil society debates around central banking and banking supervision, as well as experience in managing initiatives that foster dialogue with the general public; 
  • a good understanding of the ECB’s mission combined with an ability to describe this mission in clear and simple terms;
  • a mastery-level (C2) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 
  • an ability to pitch creative ideas in a succinct and persuasive manner;
  • experience with focus groups and testing creative concepts among key audiences;
  • an eye for graphic design.
