Your team

You will be part of the Market Operations Systems Division in the Directorate General Market Operations. Our Directorate General develops state-of-the-art frameworks and provides high-quality market intelligence, which ensures effective implementation of the ECB’s monetary policy and management of its financial assets. 

In your role as Market Operations Analyst, you will be part of the Division’s Data Analytics and Innovation team. The team consists of five members of staff (some of whom are part time)  responsible for supporting data analytics and innovation in the Directorate General. The team focuses on topics such as digitalisation, automation, data management, data visualisation and the adoption of new technologies and tools. You will work closely with other teams in the Division and Directorate General , as well as with national central banks.

Your role

As a Market Operations Analyst you will:
  • support data analytics and innovation in the Directorate General;
  • develop and maintain self-developed applications in the Directorate General;
  • prepare and work with the treasury management system and other market operations data;
  • foster digitalisation and automation;
  • obtain and analyse meaningful data and prepare dashboards for visualisation and reporting; 
  • promote the adoption of new technologies and tools, and evaluate their feasibility, with the aim of incorporating them into the Directorate General’s business processes.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to understand the interactions and dependencies between different business areas at the ECB and national central banks, and to gain a detailed insight into the data analytics relevant to market operations and monetary policy implementation. 

You will link initiatives to ensure standardisation, implement technological progress and improve the transparency of data models and advanced analytics . You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens. 

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree  or equivalent in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), economics, business administration or finance (click here for details on degree equivalences); 
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of one year’s experience of the Wallstreet Suite’s functional/system administration and data management technologies;

    experience of:
    • relational database systems, data querying with SQL, and scripting/programming languages (e.g. Python or Java), with a track record in data visualisation and the reporting of data in a clean and visually compelling manner;
    • any of the following frameworks: market operations, risk management, market infrastructure or financial accounting data;
    • introducing new and innovative technologies, tools and work processes; 
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • a good understanding of monetary policy tools and market operations; 
  • experience in data analytics;
  • experience of the KNIME data analytics platform.

Working modalities

To enable the Division to cover the European and part of the Asian and US trading sessions, you may be expected to work a shift system.

To enable the Division to maintain its business continuity capability, you will occasionally be expected to perform work during non-standard working hours and work at the ECB’s standby sites.

Further information

The formal title for this position will be Market Operations Analyst. 

The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person. 

Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
