Your team

You will be a member of the Network and Physical Data Centre team of the Platform Services Section, which is part of the Infrastructure and Operations Services Division in the Directorate General Information Systems. The Section has approximately 30 staff members and is responsible for network development and evolution, application hosting, database, monitoring, service management, software development and testing platforms. 
In your role as Cloud Network Engineer, together with four colleagues you will design, plan and implement network solutions for the ECB public and private cloud.

Your role

As a Senior Cloud Network Engineer you will:
  • design, plan and implement cloud connectivity and software-defined networks and foster network automation;
  • ensure the network is responsive to user demands and support troubleshooting when issues arise;
  • scale network services to serve growing businesses;
  • implement effective security strategies and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines;
  • contribute to other engineering tasks in the team;
  • draft and review technical documentation and contribute to sharing technical knowledge.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in in computer science, information systems, or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of seven years’ experience in IT network engineering;
  • a background and experience in Network DevOps and related tools (e.g. GitLab, Terraform, Ansible);
  • a background in designing and operating Cisco-based networks with Check Point firewalls to control the perimeter;
    • a good knowledge of:
    • the TCP/IP and IEEE 802 Ethernet protocol suite;
    • routing-related protocols such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS and VRRP;
    • security awareness, technologies and best practices;
    • DNS, DHCP and IPAM;
  • experience in operating mission-critical IT infrastructure environments;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired: 
  • experience in cloud computing and multi-cloud connectivity;
  • experience of translating security strategies and guidelines into practical network solutions;
  • proven experience in working with external companies and service providers.

Working modalities

To enable the Section to maintain its business continuity capability, you will occasionally be expected to perform work during non-standard working hours and work at the ECB’s standby sites.

The contract(s) offered will be short-term ESCB/IO, the appointment being for 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person, extendable to up to 36 months.
