Your team


You will be part of the Audit Support and Investigations Division in the Directorate Internal Audit. Our Directorate has around 45 staff providing independent and objective assurance services, Reporting directly to the Executive Board, we help the ECB to achieve its objectives by ensuring a systematic approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. All activities, operations and processes at the ECB may be subject to internal auditing.

The Audit Support and Investigations Division, which comprises ten members of staff, manages all service and support processes for internal audits and the Internal Auditors Committee (IAC) of the European System of Central Banks. These include audit planning, reporting, secretarial support to the IAC, quality management, methodology development, training coordination and information management. The Division also coordinates the ECB’s interaction with the European Court of Auditors, the external auditors, other auditing bodies and the audit community. Finally, the Division is responsible for conducting administrative inquiries and investigations, in which the Director Internal Audit acts as Lead Inquirer.

Your role

As an Auditor, you will:
  • contribute to the development of audit methodologies, policies and procedures to ensure adequate audit coverage of relevant risk areas and overall consistency with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing; 
  • contribute to other tasks carried out by the Division, such as supporting the IAC and coordinating with external auditors;  
  • be involved in internal administrative inquiries.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in internal audit, business administration, information technology, accounting, finance, controlling or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, at least three years of relevant professional experience in the field of internal auditing; 
  • good drafting and presentation skills, and the ability to present complex issues in a concise and clear manner to non-specialist audiences, both orally and in writing;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.


Desired: 
  • a relevant professional qualification, e.g. Certified Internal Auditor; 
  • a good understanding of investigative methodologies and techniques.

The contract offered will be short-term ESCB/IO, the appointment being for 12 months as of 1 December 2021, extendable to up to 36 months.
