Your team

You will join the Directorate Digital Euro, which is part of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments and is responsible for leading the digital euro project. Following the successful completion of the preparation phase, the next project phase focuses on advancing technical readiness, deepening market engagement and supporting the legislative process.

For more information about the digital euro project, please visit the hub page on the ECB’s website.

In your role as a Market Infrastructure Project Management Specialist, you will be part of a growing team of approximately 100 people. We are looking to fill several specialist positions to work on (i) onboarding payment service providers to the central service platform and coordinating the testing of interactions between their local systems and the platform, and (ii) preparing for operational aspects of the digital euro by defining the operational organisation and procedures.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of European payments, ensuring people across the euro area continue to have secure and convenient ways to pay, both in cash and digitally.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Market Infrastructure Project Management Specialist you will work on some of the following tasks:
  • engage and collaborate with national central banks, other ECB business areas and providers of the digital euro service platform;
  • participate in either the detailing of the testing and certification activities or onboarding activities, and the related reporting frameworks;
  • take part in drawing up the digital euro training framework, including preparing training materials and organising training sessions;
  • help to establish the market readiness monitoring framework;
  • contribute to setting the requirements for and developing user testing, market readiness and the onboarding monitoring tools and dashboard;
  • help to coordinate user testing, monitor market readiness and carry out onboarding activities;
  • contribute to the development of operational procedures, drafting related documentation, detailing operations metrics, designing reports and dashboards and configuring data collection tools;
  • help to prepare, set up and conduct operational activities.

For these positions we are seeking candidates who demonstrate the potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidates in their development of the required skills.

The specific tasks and responsibilities assigned to the positions may vary depending on the final work distribution and approved setting of the next phase of the digital euro project. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  •  a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, project management, economics or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of two and ideally more years of hands-on experience in operations, testing and/or stakeholder management in the field of payment systems;
  • proven experience in coordinating customer testing activities in payments and/or the drafting of operational procedures and related documentation and reports;
  • experience in drafting procedural guidelines, user manuals, or other project or operational documentation;
  • sound understanding of payment solutions or infrastructure in Europe;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • familiarity with visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau), software to visualise process flows (e.g. Visio) and/or service management tools (e.g. Jira).

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.
You are aware of your strengths and areas for development and know what motivates you to perform at your highest level.
