The Climate Change Centre has approximately ten staff overseeing the implementation of the ECB’s
Climate and Nature Plan 2024-2025. We maintain regular contact with internal and external stakeholders, including academics, non governmental organisations, the media, and representatives of other central banks and international organisations.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or other characteristics.
Your role
As a trainee in the Climate Change Centre you will:
- actively contribute to the regular tasks and functions of the Climate Change Centre by working independently or supporting the team;
- support the implementation of the ECB’s Climate and Nature Plan 2024-2025 by contributing to ongoing projects and initiatives;
- monitor and analyse issues related to EU and global policies on, and regulatory developments in, climate change and sustainable finance;
- contribute to further developing the ECB’s stances and knowledge on climate change, nature degradation and sustainable finance through briefings, analyses and internal notes for senior decision-makers;
- perform economic and financial analysis on climate and nature risk, and develop data driven insights to support the Climate Change Centre’s work on the above topics;
- analyse the development of climate-related activities, regulations and frameworks, and engage with external stakeholders, including other central banks and international organisations.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to contribute to the ECB’s climate change agenda and gain insight into related activities taking place across the ECB and externally.
You will work in a team of highly qualified experts in the field of climate change and nature degradation, contribute to the ECB’s research agenda and collaborate with multiple ECB business areas on climate-related issues. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
- a bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, finance, environmental science, data science, statistics, mathematics, political science, European studies or a related field, ideally with a focus on climate change or nature degradation;
- an understanding of the economic and financial implications of climate change, and related policies and central bank activities;
- experience in handling and analysing datasets;
- experience in working with standard statistical and econometric packages and data visualisation tools;
- knowledge of EU and international climate policies and frameworks (e.g. the European Green Deal, Paris Agreement or sustainable finance initiatives);
- experience in policy analysis, regulatory research or stakeholder engagement;
- a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.
You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
