Your team

You will be part of the Governance and Transformation Services Division, which acts as a cross functional service platform under the management of the Chief Services Office (CSO). The CSO is responsible for more than 800 staff delivering internal services in the fields of administration, human resources, IT and finance.

Our Division has around 70 staff providing horizontal services in the areas of communication, service delivery and optimisation, financial management, vendor and service management, and quality management. We are currently contributing to efforts to transform working methods in the various business areas under the CSO, fostering collaborative and cross-functional approaches with a focus on people, flexibility, learning and results.

As a trainee in software testing, you will be part of the Service Delivery team responsible for providing a range of services covering governance, coaching, innovation and community engagement, enabling project teams to optimise their testing processes, improve product quality and foster a collaborative testing culture. You will work closely with service coordinators, IT project managers and stakeholders in various business areas.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a trainee in the Service Delivery team, you will:
  • support project managers and service coordinators in adopting best practices for testing, including in relation to the goals and scope of quality assurance, test phases, levels, types and reporting, and software configuration management;
  • provide guidance and training on the use of IT testing methodologies and tools (such as Confluence, Jira, Xray and GitLab) and help to develop related materials;
  • evaluate the quality of test plans and deliverables to establish a risk-based approach to testing;
  • help to manage the testing community of practice, arranging events to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and practices across the ECB.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to gain hands-on experience in software testing and apply the knowledge and skills acquired during your studies. Working together with more experienced IT professionals, you will have the opportunity to improve your skills and obtain insights into industry best practices and standards in software testing. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in science, computer science, engineering, business informatics or another technology-related field;
  • an understanding of the fundamentals of software testing and different project delivery models (e.g. waterfall and agile approaches);
  • user/developer/tester experience of application lifecycle management and software delivery tools (e.g. Jira, Xray and GitLab);
  • experience of working with communication and collaboration tools (e.g. Confluence, MS Teams, Miro and Tableau);
  • a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certification or another testing-related certification;
  • experience managing a community of practice.

You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
