The Division has more than 50 staff working in the areas of communication, service delivery/optimisation, quality management, financial management and vendor/service management. Our mission is to transform working methods while fostering collaborative approaches with a focus on people, agility, learning and results.

You will be part of the GTS Digital Transformation team. This is a young, dynamic and collaborative team that delivers insight-driven analytics and automation support to colleagues across the ECB. The team identifies opportunities to transform working methods using data analytics, robotic process automation and chatbots. It develops and implements solutions in close collaboration with a range of stakeholders and business partners.

The ECB is an inclusive employer, and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a trainee in the GTS Digital Transformation team, you will:
  • identify and analyse business needs in order to produce data-driven insights;
  • develop and maintain operational databases containing contract, project and financial data;
  • code and develop visualisation tools in the interests of efficient data analysis and the optimisation of processes;
  • develop solutions with a view to improving the team's efficiency and effectiveness;
  • plan, coordinate and execute tasks aimed at improving the management of data within the Division.

This position will offer excellent opportunities to develop new capabilities in the area of business analytics, hone your programming skills and devise innovative technological solutions, benefiting from unparalleled training and support. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, IT engineering, business informatics, business analytics, statistics, mathematics or another relevant field (whereby you can also apply if you graduated in another subject, but your studies included relevant elective components in the area of science and technology);
  • experience of preparing, handling and analysing datasets based on various data sources;
  • knowledge of Python, R or another statistical programming language;
  • knowledge of SQL or another relational database programming language;
  • excellent analytical and conceptual skills, and an interest in complex technical content;
  • the ability to present findings to a non-technical audience;
  • the ability to plan and coordinate work independently and comply with tight deadlines;
  • a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  • knowledge of relational databases and experience of using analytical tools in Hadoop or similar big data frameworks;
  • knowledge of agile delivery methods;
  • experience of using Jira or other issue-tracking or project management software.

You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
