Your team
You will be part of the Language Services Division in the Directorate General Communications. We provide translation, editing, proofreading, and language technology and terminology services in all official EU languages, as well as offering advice on linguistic matters. Our work covers a wide range of texts for expert audiences and the general public, and includes translating multilingual content for our website, which aims to make the ECB’s work accessible to non-expert readers.
In your role as a trainee Swedish Translator, you will be part of one of the Division’s three multilingual sections. These sections are responsible for communicating the ECB’s messages to over 300 million Europeans who do not have English as their native language. You will be the ECB’s voice in Swedish and will work closely with translators, language technologists and process administrators, as well as with experts from other ECB business areas.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.
Your role
As a trainee Swedish Translator you will:
- translate, from English into Swedish, a range of (non-legal) texts in the fields of monetary policy and banking supervision;
- revise and proofread texts written in Swedish;
- help to identify, extract and compile terminology, particularly in the fields of economics and finance;
- align previously translated documents so they can be added to the translation memory databases.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to use state-of-the-art language technology tools in your daily work and to gain an insight into language services activities in an EU institution. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
Desired:
- a master’s degree (or nearing completion of a master’s degree) in modern languages or translation, or a master’s degree in any other field combined with postgraduate studies in translation;
- university courses in translation from English into Swedish and/or professional experience in English into Swedish translation;
- familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools;
- a broad knowledge of European current affairs, with a particular interest in financial and economic matters;
- an intermediate (B1) command of another official EU language.
You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.
You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
