Place of work Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Closing date 05.04.2021

Your team

You will be part of the Sector Accounts and Fiscal Statistics Section, which is part of the External Statistics and Sector Accounts (ESSA) Division in the Directorate General Statistics (DG/S). The Section has a team of around 18 members and is primarily responsible for developing, compiling and disseminating the euro area accounts (financial and non-financial accounts by sector) and government finance statistics. It also collects, validates and disseminates the related data for EU Member States as well as other national account items (e.g. GDP). Finally, it provides related user services for these domains and coordinates the ECB’s contribution to the further development and harmonisation of these statistics across the EU and in international fora.

Your work will be in the field of government finance statistics and have close links to the other activities of the ESSA Division. We are currently working on several initiatives to develop new products and are in the process of migrating to a new compilation system. You will work closely with the entire ESSA team, other DG/S teams, other ECB business areas, national central banks, Eurostat, national statistical offices and the international statistical community.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply, irrespective of your gender, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Team Lead Economist-Statistician you will:
  • coordinate a team of experts in government finance statistics to develop their skills and capabilities;
  • take a leading role in conceptual discussions at European level, including contributing to the ongoing review of statistical standards;
  • coordinate the regular statistical production and publication processes;
  • take a leading role in the implementation, design and development of new statistical methods and techniques, including the use of DG/S’s granular data sources;
  • represent the ECB in internal and/or external statistical fora, and maintain working contacts with the relevant counterparts;
  • maintain excellent contacts with internal and external users in order to anticipate and meet user demands and to promote the analytical output based on the Section’s statistics;
  • provide – and present – notes to the ESCB Statistics Committee and its substructures, and prepare briefing material for ECB senior management.
The position offers you an excellent opportunity to gain insights into the concepts and compilation of government finance statistics and national accounts, and their links with various other ECB statistics. It will also allow you to contribute to the development of new products and the usage of new, often very detailed and complex data sources.

The transition to a new compilation environment will provide you with a unique opportunity to shape the future and make use of your experience with process optimisation and state of the art IT statistical tools. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
