Your team

You will be part of the Financial Research Division in the Directorate General Research. This Division is responsible for conducting research on topics related to financial intermediation, financial stability, asset pricing, corporate finance and investments. To do so, it cooperates closely with various other directorates at the ECB.

In your role as Student Research Assistant Trainee, you will work closely with our economists to support the preparation of analysis for current policy decisions and longer-term research projects.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply, irrespective of your gender, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Student Research Assistant Trainee in the Financial Research Division you will:
  • develop programs in statistical packages to construct and maintain cross-sectional, time-series and panel datasets;
  • perform econometric and statistical analysis intended for inclusion in academic journal papers, ECB publications and policy products;
  • present data in conjunction with basic economic and statistical analysis;
  • help to solve and estimate financial and macroeconomic models.

As a trainee in the Student Research Assistant Programme, you will support our economists in academic research projects and in work of an operational nature, such as the preparation of policy-related notes for the ECB’s Executive Board. This will enable you to develop your analytical skills and gain an insight into the ECB’s research activities and policymaking processes. You will have access to all internal seminars and conferences organised by the ECB and will be exposed to new ideas and stimuli that can provide a useful foundation for your future career and/or graduate studies. The programme will help you develop and pursue a PhD or a number of different opportunities at the ECB and other organisations. This position provides a great opportunity to explore whether graduate studies are the right step for you to take next. Many of the student research assistants leaving the Financial Research Division pursue a PhD, typically in economics or finance, on distinguished graduate programmes in the United States and Europe. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
