Your team

You will be part of the Monetary and Economic Statistics Division in the Directorate General Statistics. Our Division develops, compiles and disseminates statistics and statistical indicators and provides related user services regarding monetary financial institutions, other financial corporations, financial stability and financial integration within the euro area and the EU. It also provides general economic statistics, including prices and costs, short-term business statistics, labour market statistics, economic tendency surveys and other statistics on non-financial sectors.

In your role as a Research Analyst, you will be part of a team of nine members of staff responsible for designing, compiling and disseminating statistical indicators based on balance sheets of non-bank financial institutions, working closely with economists and analysts dealing with macroprudential policies and financial stability.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Research Analyst you will:

  • run and maintain procedures related to the compilation and dissemination of statistics based on balance sheets of non-bank financial institutions, such as investment funds, securitisation vehicles, insurance corporations and pension funds;
  • analyse and assess the quality of financial statistics;
  • contribute to the migration to a new IT platform for data and procedures used in the production and dissemination of statistics.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to contribute to developing statistical indicators for policymaking in a leading central bank. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

  • a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in statistics, mathematics, finance, economics or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, at least two years’ professional experience with regular statistical production, database management, time series analysis and data quality assessment;
  • knowledge of statistical standards used in the compilation of macroeconomic statistics (such as the European System of Accounts or the IMF Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual) or in processes for the exchange of statistical data and metadata (such as the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange initiative);
  • the ability to develop and maintain code in at least one of the following applications: R, Python, FAME, Matlab, SAS, Stata or SQL;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • experience with testing IT applications and tools for data management, compilation and dissemination.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.
You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.

Working modalities

To enable the Division to maintain its business continuity capability, you will occasionally be expected to perform work during non-standard working hours and work at the ECB’s standby sites.

We would be happy to discuss a part-time arrangement for this role.
