Your team

You will be part of the Information Governance Division in the Directorate General Secretariat. Our Division has about 50 staff providing the policy framework, services and tools to ensure that ECB staff can access and make the most of internal and external knowledge and information. We are currently working on the digital transformation of our library to provide both content and tools and services for the retrieval, access and use of online information. We are also developing our range of services to strengthen the ECB’s knowledge management function and collaboration capabilities. Fulfilling the evolving information needs of our users by calling on our specialist skills and expertise remains the main mission of the Library team.

In your role as Librarian/Knowledge Management Specialist you will be part of the dynamic and service-oriented Library Services team of seven members of staff responsible for: 
  • providing knowledge and information management services to support the ECB’s business activities;
  • advising and promoting the use and appropriate sharing of information across the ECB; 
  • supporting the ECB’s knowledge management roadmap and promoting the knowledge-sharing culture through regular and innovative actions;
  • facilitating and assisting the ECB’s business and research activities by helping our experts perform information retrieval in print resources and online business databases and by providing newsletters with filtered content.
You will work closely with colleagues across the Division, as well as economists and researchers working on central banking topics.

Your role

As a Librarian/Knowledge Management Specialist you will:
  • engage and collaborate with stakeholders to identify and deliver knowledge and information management solutions tailored to their needs;
  • support the introduction and deployment of knowledge and information management services;
  • develop and maintain knowledge of users’ information needs with a view to designing and delivering innovative information services;
  • provide research and information services using print and electronic resources;
  • establish and maintain automated newsletters for monitoring external information;
  • develop and maintain knowledge of information resources in selected topics and collaborate with colleagues on collection development, including product evaluation and testing.

Qualifications, experience and skills Essential: 

  • a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Library management, information management or knowledge management, or another relevant field (for details on degree equivalences follow this link);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of 2 years’ relevant professional experience delivering knowledge, library or information management services; 
  • an understanding of knowledge management, including knowledge-sharing methods and tools;
  • experience gathering stakeholders’ information needs and identifying opportunities to deliver knowledge and information services;
  • effective communication skills, including active listening, the ability to adapt your communication style to the audience, the ability to share ideas with others, and public speaking;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Desired: 
  • experience searching and using business, economic or financial information resources;
  • professional experience with an integrated library management system (e.g. Ex Libris Alma);
  • advanced user-level skills in standard MS Office applications (such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • experience using information search techniques with print and online resources.

Further information

The formal title for this position will be Information Management Specialist.
Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
