Your team
You will be part of the Knowledge Management (KM) team in the Directorate General Legal Services. Our Directorate General has around 120 staff who advise on all legal aspects of the regulatory, contractual and institutional framework of the European Central Bank (ECB), the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and ECB Banking Supervision. We are currently working on a number of exciting projects covering several main areas of activity. First, we are consolidating our legal knowledge in the form of practice guides, templates and manuals. Second, we are introducing legal technology, for example process mapping and digitalisation, low-code initiatives, AI-based legal content analytics and legislative knowledge visualisation. We are also striving to build up capability for collaboration with a view to introducing new ways of sharing legal knowledge.
In your role as Legal Technology Analyst, you will be part of a cross-disciplinary team consisting of eight members of staff who support the work of the lawyers in the Directorate General by conducting research and compiling notes on legal topics and case law. You will also be involved in a variety of operations and technology projects aimed at digitalising our work processes and improving access to legal knowledge. Our team works closely with the other teams in the Directorate General and with IT and information management specialists, depending on the given project.

Your role
As a Legal Technology Analyst you will:
- contribute to various legal knowledge management projects, including projects to achieve the timely retrieval of relevant legal knowledge;
- participate in legal technology projects (for example, designing digital workflows, wiki pages and legislative visualisation tools);
- contribute to building up collaborative digital technologies and develop digital solutions for the analysis and visualisation of performance data relating to legal operations and processes;
- help to provide knowledge management practice notes and templates for the Directorate General, including enhancing the display and functionalities of these;
- contribute to the optimisation of processes and in particular to enhancing processes and systems for tracking and monitoring legal developments that are relevant to the ECB, the ESCB and the SSM;
- contribute to the legal training programme and foster a knowledge management culture within the Directorate General.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in law obtained in an EU Member State (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences), ideally with some courses or professional certification related to technology;
- in addition to the above, a minimum of two years of experience with legal knowledge management projects and/or digitalisation of legal operations;
- professional experience in project management;
- familiarity with the latest developments in legal technology and an ambition to tackle legal technology projects;
- outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in drafting;
- an ability to work well in diverse teams and on challenging projects;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a good knowledge of EU/ECB law and good research skills;
- experience with topics related to knowledge retrieval, e.g. metadata application, taxonomies and information interoperability, knowledge graphs;
- experience with collaborative digital technologies and/or data and knowledge visualisation tools;
- stakeholder management experience;

Further information
The formal title for this position will be Legal Analyst.
Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for two years as of the exact starting date of the selected person.
