Role specialisation Audit – Banking Supervision and Finance

Working time Full time

Place of work Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Closing date 19.07.2021

Your team

You will be part of the banking supervision audit team in the Directorate Internal Audit. Our Directorate has roughly 45 staff providing audit assurance services across all ECB business areas. We are currently updating our banking supervision audit universe following the reorganisation of the banking supervision business areas, while also continuing our audits on relevant banking supervision processes.

In your role as Lead Auditor, you will be part of a team of ten staff responsible for providing audit assurance services on banking supervision processes across the ECB. We conduct audit missions which require continuous risk monitoring of banking supervision processes. Our team also participates in and supports the Audit Task Force on Banking Supervision which coordinates the audits performed by the Internal Auditors Committee across the ECB and the national competent authorities (NCAs). We therefore work closely with both ECB Banking Supervision business areas and the audit functions in the NCAs.
The Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) is the system of banking supervision in Europe. It comprises the ECB and the NCAs of the participating countries.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Lead Auditor you will:
  • lead and/or contribute to an audit team focusing on audit missions on banking supervision and, occasionally, other related topics;
  • represent the ECB in the Audit Task Force on Banking Supervision, acting as task force secretary and coordinating day-to-day activities;
  • support management by ensuring the quality of audit outputs on banking supervision topics (e.g. work programme, audit reports, risk assessments and follow-up activities);
  • promote the knowledge of banking supervision processes and their associated risks within the SSM audit team;
  • establish and actively maintain a network among banking supervision stakeholders within the ECB as well as among NCA stakeholders involved in banking supervision.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to contribute to the accomplishment of the ECB’s objectives by providing independent audit assurance services which are designed to add value and improve the ECB’s operations. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in finance, business administration, or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of three and ideally five or more years of expert-level experience in the field of banking supervision;
  • sound understanding of key banking supervision concepts, such as credit risk or the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process;
  • professional experience in the field of auditing within a financial institution;
  • a track record of participating in and coordinating meetings in an international environment and negotiating compromises;
  • strong drafting and editing skills as well as verbal reasoning skills required to communicate complex audit findings to a multitude of stakeholders across different seniority levels;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • professional experience in internal auditing of banking supervision processes;
  • experience in developing or training staff members on technically complex issues;
  • experience of concepts or products at the forefront of banking supervision innovation.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the objectives of this position.
