Your team

You will be part of the Knowledge Management (KM) team in the Directorate General Legal Services. Our Directorate General has approximately 120 staff advising on all legal aspects of the regulatory, contractual and institutional framework of the European Central Bank (ECB), the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and European banking supervision. Given the strategic importance of KM for both the Directorate General and the ECB as whole, our team’s work is currently focused on developing the use of technology for legal knowledge management, as well as deepening the KM culture in the Directorate General. We are also striving to build up capability for collaboration and visualisation of legal acts and processes with a view to introducing new ways of sharing legal knowledge.
In your role as a KM Legal Technology Analyst, you will be part of a cross-disciplinary (legal/technology) team of nine members of staff responsible, inter alia, for the management of the Directorate General’s knowledge assets using new technologies and the digitalisation of legal processes. Our team works closely with the rest of the Directorate General as well as with other ECB business areas.

Your role

As a KM Legal Technology Analyst you will:
  • contribute to various legal knowledge management projects, including projects to achieve the timely retrieval of relevant legal knowledge;
  • participate in legal technology projects (for example, designing digital workflows or text mining tools for legal documents);
  • contribute to building up collaborative digital technologies;
  • help to provide knowledge management practice notes and templates for the Directorate General, including enhancing the display and functionalities of these;
  • contribute to enhancing processes and systems for tracking and monitoring legal developments that are relevant to the ECB and the ESCB;
  • contribute to the legal training programme in the Directorate General;
  • foster a knowledge management culture within the Directorate General.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a bachelor’s degree in law (or an equivalent professional legal qualification obtained in an EU Member State), ideally with some courses or professional certification related to technology (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • experience with legal knowledge management projects and/or digitalisation of legal operations;
  • familiarity with the latest developments in legal technology and an ambition to tackle legal technology projects;
  • outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in drafting;>
  • an ability to work well in diverse teams and on challenging projects;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 
  • a good knowledge of EU/ECB law;
  • good research skills; 
  • experience with topics related to knowledge retrieval, including metadata application, taxonomies and information interoperability, and knowledge graphs;
  • experience with collaborative digital technologies; 
  • project management experience;
  • stakeholder management experience;
  • procurement experience;
  • experience with data and knowledge visualisation tools.

Further information

We have two vacancies to fill: one full-time position and one part-time position (50%). 

Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB’s Conditions of Employment.
