Your team
You will be part of the Internal and External Engagement Division in the Directorate General Communications. The Directorate General has around 200 staff members working to maintain and enhance the ECB’s reputation, and build trust in the institution. Our Division is currently focused on making the ECB more accessible to different audiences, while listening to, and hearing, the concerns of colleagues and citizens alike.
In your role as Internal Communication Expert, you will be part of a talented and proactive team of ten people responsible for developing and fostering leadership communication, establishing a shared understanding of the ECB’s policies and progress, and encouraging and creating opportunities for exchange and listening. Together with your colleagues, you will provide internal communication advice, as well as develop and implement internal communication campaigns and events. You will deal with internal communication matters related to the ECB’s core business (central banking and banking supervision), as well as to other areas of the ECB.

Your role
As an Internal Communication Expert you will:
- contribute to the ECB’s internal communications strategy;
- advise colleagues across all areas and levels of the ECB on internal communication matters, getting to the heart of the issue and articulating communication objectives, ideas, concepts and narratives clearly;
- manage a variety of communication projects and design internal communication campaigns that focus on achieving the desired outcomes for the institution;
- develop and review internal communications, using both written and visual storytelling approaches, and find ways to encourage open and meaningful dialogue among staff;
- design and deliver (communication) events and workshops;
- proactively help to further the work of the wider Internal Communications team, by contributing views and ideas, and providing support.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in communications, economics, business or public administration, psychology or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ experience in communications, including responsibility for developing, implementing, adjusting and evaluating communications campaigns and initiatives;including ideally two or more years’ experience in the field of internal communications;
- proven ability to quickly grasp complex topics and use clear and simple language to communicate them;
- a track record of driving projects forward on one’s own initiative, including stakeholder management;
- a mastery-level (C2) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- skills and experience in workshop facilitation, visual communications (such as creating infographics, developing ideas for multimedia and video production) or social media/internal community management;
- experience in leading change communication initiatives or dealing with sensitive issues.

Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
