Your team

You will be part of the Innovation and Architecture Services Division in the Directorate General Information Systems. Our Division has 18 staff working on the adoption of innovative technology, the architecture of IT systems and related services required by the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). We also work to foster an innovation culture within the ECB and explore and exploit the value of pioneering technologies and trends for our organisation.
In your role as an Innovation Management Expert, you will be part of a team of eight people who are responsible for creating the right culture, framework and practices around innovation management, incubating innovative ideas and supporting multi-functional teams running prototypes and pilots, working closely with other team members and stakeholders in different business areas.

Your role

As an Innovation Management Expert, you will:
  • develop and promote an innovation management framework, as well as tools facilitating and supporting innovation;
  • contribute to the adoption of a new culture, new practices and new processes in the field of innovation management;
  • work with colleagues across the Directorate General Information Systems and in other business areas in order to gather user insights, develop new business opportunities and innovation roadmaps, and recommend solutions for research and development;
  • engage and cooperate with multi-functional teams that are developing innovative ideas and working on prototypes and pilots, guiding them through the innovation process, from ideation to prototyping;
  • foster relationships with other parts of the innovation ecosystem (both internal and external), working together on activities aimed at promoting and accelerating innovation at the ECB (innovation challenges, hackathons, acceleration programmes, project incubation, etc.);
  • participate in other corporate initiatives and special assignments relating to innovation as required.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information technology, business administration, economics or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of two (and ideally three or more) years of experience in the field of innovation management and/or change management in relation to corporate culture and practices;
  • experience of applying the lean start-up methodology or user experience design techniques and driving innovative solutions and business opportunities, coaching and guiding stakeholders;
  • experience of using design thinking techniques and facilitation of activities with multiple stakeholders in order to elicit business needs and drive the ideation process;
  • the ability to think and act strategically and proactively in the fields of innovation and digitalisation;
  • the ability to innovate in a wide range of different areas, with knowledge of a broad range of business applications and/or infrastructure technologies;
  • advanced drafting and communication skills;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • an understanding of IT project management methodologies, including agile approaches;
  • experience of modelling business processes;
  • experience of using sketching and video tools to create promotional content.

Further information

The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for 18 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person.

Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
