Your team

You will be part of the Systems Services Section in the Infrastructure and Operations Services Division of the Directorate General Information Systems (DG-IS). Our Directorate has 230 staff providing IT services, introducing new technologies and digitalising existing systems across the ECB. We are currently focusing on automating business processes, transforming our operating model to DevOps and migrating as many of our applications as possible to the cloud.

In your role as an IT Expert, you will be part of a small team responsible for maintaining, supporting and developing the ECB’s infrastructure for the SWIFT messaging system, the TARGET2-Securities (T2S) settlement engine, the TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) service and the Eurosystem Single Market Infrastructure Gateway (ESMIG). We work closely with key business counterparts within the ECB such as Corporate Services, Internal Audit, and Market Infrastructure and Payments.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As an IT Expert you will:
  • act as service coordinator for ESMIG and T2S and backup service coordinator for SWIFT;
  • manage the services listed above and perform operational duties, including being on call;
  • support and maintain availability, stability and security for these environments;
  • provide conceptual proposals and recommendations to develop these services in line with the DG-IS strategy and objectives;
  • engage and collaborate with stakeholders in the business areas concerned and across DG-IS, the ECB and occasionally the European System of Central Banks;
  • contribute to the adoption of DevOps and migration to the cloud, exploring how services could be migrated to the Software as a Service model.

We are seeking a candidate for this role who demonstrates the potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidate in the future development of the required knowledge, skills or competencies.

The position offers excellent opportunities to be at the forefront of delivering smart, scalable and efficient next-generation infrastructure services based on a high degree of integrity, automation and security to support a world-class data-centric institution. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in information technology, computer engineering or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of five years’ experience in designing, maintaining and developing complex IT infrastructure services or integrated solutions;
  • experience in system engineering, especially managing Linux-based server infrastructure in a virtualised/cloud environment, with at least a basic knowledge of Internet Protocol networking and related security concepts;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • professional experience of and/or training in SWIFT Alliance software (SWIFT Smart) and financial messaging networks, and knowledge of ISO 20022/CBPR+;
  • professional experience with cloud technologies, specifically Infrastructure as a Service/Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as Code.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs. You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.

Working modalities

To enable the Systems Services Section to maintain its business continuity capability, you will occasionally be expected to work during non-standard working hours, be on call and work at the ECB’s standby sites.
