We provide advice and expertise to all areas of the ECB to help them connect with diverse audiences and communicate complex issues in the best way. We safeguard and enhance the ECB’s reputation and build trust in its actions.

In your role as the Head of Division, you will lead a team of around 30 staff members closely watching what is said and written about the ECB, informing and interacting with journalists, and advising on the content and timing of press releases, press conferences and briefings. As well as drafting key communication points for the ECB’s decision-making bodies, our Division handles media relations for senior decision-makers, including requests for interviews, speeches or other public appearances.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As Head of the Global Media Relations Division you will:
  • implement and continuously develop the ECB’s global media strategy;

  • establish an ECB newsroom, bringing together all forms of media relations, social media communication and internal communication;
  • define and manage narratives and messages for all the ECB’s communication channels;
  • promote consistent communications across the Eurosystem and European System of Central Banks by contributing to the Eurosystem/ESCB Communications Committee;
  • establish and maintain relationships between the ECB and media around the world;
  • provide, together with the members of your Division, a spokesperson function for the ECB;
  • manage and motivate the staff of the Division and promote their professional development in the interests of the ECB.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to apply your strategic and leadership skills in the field of global media relations. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

  • professional experience with one or several type(s) of media (print, agency, TV, radio);

  • a mastery-level (C2) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • a proven ability to establish an excellent network in the European media landscape.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and can draw on the strengths of a diverse team to get the best results. You support the efforts of team members to develop their abilities and are able to build up high-performing teams. You facilitate change and can articulate strategic priorities and scenarios for your team.
