Your team
You will be part of the Statistical Applications and Tools Division in the Directorate General (DG) Statistics. Our Division has roughly 35 staff providing horizontal technical services, revolving around the traditional stages of the statistical business process (collection, compilation and dissemination). In addition, we support the Directorate General in managing its operational risks and business continuity, we are a reference point for two key statistical technical standards, SDMX and XBRL, and we invest in new technology, such as machine learning/artificial intelligence.
We are currently working on modernising the digital infrastructures in place in DG Statistics and have initiated a number of major projects to implement that transformation. Among these, our work currently focuses on the ECB’s centralised statistical data collection platform, the statistical production systems for macroeconomic statistics and supervisory data, and the statistical dissemination and publication environment.
In your role as Head of Section, you will be part of a team of 3 members of staff responsible for running the activities of the Division. To help you in achieving the Section’s objectives, you will be supported by a team of around 15 staff. You will be expected to play a pivotal role in bringing some of the transformational projects to successful completion and to help with related change management efforts to make the best use of the new infrastructures being built.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply, irrespective of your gender, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability and other characteristics.
Your role
As a Head of Section, you will:
- manage the activities of the Section of around 15 staff;
- steer projects aimed at transforming the statistical Infrastructures in place for collecting, compiling, disseminating and communicating statistics and data;
- engage and collaborate with other divisions in DG Statistics to ensure that the services of the Section meet expectations;
- support the Head of Division and the (Deputy) Director General in defining a mid-term plan to implement the strategic directions of the business;
- foster a culture of collaboration within the Division and beyond, acting as a role model for staff;
- participate in external working groups, representing the ECB and the Division in the specific field of competence.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to manage a large team working on activities that draw on leading edge technologies, while closely monitoring developments in the latest data management trends. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

- knowledge of statistical technical standards (SDMX or XBRL);
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a track record in the delivery of complex projects impacting IT systems used for statistics or data management;
- a sound understanding of the ICT landscape.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and can draw on the strengths of a diverse team to get the best results. You support the efforts of team members to develop their abilities and are able to build up high-performing teams. You facilitate change and can articulate strategic priorities and scenarios for your team.
You are motivated to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the objectives of this position. You are highly motivated to guide teams in their daily work and support their professional development.
