Your team

You will be part of the Monetary and Economic Statistics Division in the Directorate General Statistics (DG/S). Our Division has roughly 40 staff whose task it is to develop, produce and publish statistics and indicators, and to provide end-user services on monetary, financial and economic statistics. 

We are currently working to enrich our statistics on bank and non-bank financial institutions), payment systems, real estate and the environment as well as our surveys of households and non-financial corporations.

In your role as Head of the Financial Statistics Section, you will be part of a team of four managers responsible for running the activities of the Division. The section you will head has approximately 15 members of staff responsible for statistics on non-bank financial intermediation, financial stability and integration, payments and fintech. 

You will work closely with colleagues from other statistics divisions and other areas of the ECB and the National Central Banks, as well as with colleagues from other institutions such as the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), and will liaise with the financial industry.

Your role

As Head of Section, you will:

  • manage the activities of the Section;
  • oversee activities and steer projects aimed at further improving the compilation, dissemination and communication of statistics and services provided to the decision-making bodies of the ECB, to users in the central banking and supervisory community as well as to the public at large;
  • engage and collaborate with other divisions in DG/S to ensure that the services of the Section remain of the highest quality;
  • support the Head of Division and the (Deputy) Director General in defining a medium-term plan to implement the strategic priorities of the business  area;
  • foster a culture of collaboration within the Division and beyond, acting as a role model for staff;
  • participate in external working groups, representing the ECB and the Division.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, economics or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • a minimum of three years’ experience of coordinating a team of qualified professionals or projects in the field of statistics or economics;
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of five years’ experience in the use or production of statistics, preferably in the areas of monetary and financial economics;
  • a sound theoretical background and good understanding of monetary and financial statistics and economics;
  • a sound understanding of information technology for the use or production of statistics;
  • a track record in the production of relevant written output in the form of policy-relevant memos, notes or publications;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Working modalities

To enable the Section to maintain its business continuity capability, you will occasionally be expected to perform work during non-standard working hours and to work at the ECB’s standby sites.
