Your team

You will be part of the Risk Analysis Division in the Directorate Risk Management. Our Division is responsible for monitoring, measuring and assessing financial risks for the Eurosystem’s monetary policy operations and the ECB’s investment operations. We are seeking applicants for two Financial Risk Expert positions to strengthen our risk control and corporate bond analysis teams.

Your role

As a Financial Risk Expert in our risk control team, you will:
  • contribute to the regular monitoring and reporting of the compliance of the Eurosystem’s monetary policy operations and the ECB’s investment operations with the relevant financial risk management frameworks;
  • participate in projects and conduct ad hoc analyses aimed at further improving financial risk control and reporting processes from both a business and an IT perspective;
  • prepare proposals for improving the risk management frameworks and present them to Senior Management as well as to the Eurosystem’s Risk Management Committee.

As a Financial Risk Expert in our corporate bond analysis team, you will:
  • ensure compliance of the Eurosystem’s corporate sector bond purchases with the applicable financial risk management frameworks;
  • monitor and assess credit and climate risks of corporate securities in the portfolio;
  • prepare ad hoc risk analyses and proposals for improving the risk management framework and present them to Senior Management and the Eurosystem’s Risk Management Committee.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in finance, economics, computer science, mathematics or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ professional experience in the field of financial risk management, market operations, statistics or financial stability; 
  • a sound understanding of financial instruments, e.g. sovereign, corporate and covered bonds;
  • knowledge of the Eurosystem’s monetary policy operations;
  • a good command of at least one programming language (e.g. Python or MATLAB) and at least one data management language (e.g. SQL, Tableau);
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 
  • experience in conducting credit and/or or climate risk assessments of corporate bond issuers would be an asset for the position in the corporate bond analysis team.

Further information

The contracts offered will be short-term ESCB/IO, the appointment being for 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person, extendable to up to 36 months. Candidates must have a contract of employment with their home institution for a period of at least one year beyond the duration of the ECB contract being offered.
