Your team

You will be part of the Risk Analysis Division in the Directorate Risk Management. The Division is responsible for monitoring, measuring, and assessing financial risks for the Eurosystem’s monetary policy operations and the ECB’s investment operations. We are looking for a financial risk expert to strengthen our risk control function.

Your role

As a Financial Risk Expert, you will:
  • actively contribute to the whole scope of regular risk compliance and reporting responsibilities of the team by carrying them out on a rotating basis, making proposals for improvements and, after having gained sufficient experience, on-boarding more junior colleagues;
  • take ownership of a subset of regular financial risk compliance and reporting tasks, and in cooperation with other team members, steer improvements in the efficiency, timeliness and proportionality of the checks, ensuring that the corresponding procedures are well-documented and carried out in compliance with the rules and best practices;
  • in cooperation with IT experts, contribute to projects aimed at enhancing our internally and externally developed applications by maintaining or adapting queries, interacting with project teams, providing analyses to support design decisions, and writing and executing test cases;
  • contribute to analyses and dossiers aimed at updating and improving the risk management frameworks and present them to Senior Management as well as to the Risk Management Committee and/or its sub-structures.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in finance, economics, computer science, mathematics or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • experience of working in financial risk management, market operations, statistics, or financial stability; 
  • a sound understanding of financial instruments, e.g. sovereign, corporate and covered bonds or asset-backed securities;
  • knowledge of the Eurosystem’s monetary policy operations;
  • experience in programming (preferably VBA, MATLAB, or Python) and data management and/or visualisation (e.g. SQL, Tableau);
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired: 
  • experience of working on tasks related to risk monitoring or compliance;
  • experience of using market data services such as Bloomberg and Reuters;
  • experience of using a Treasury Management System and databases related to securities-issuing institutions, preferably in the context of the European System of Central Banks;
  • experience of adapting business processes to changes in scope and rules, ideally in the field of financial risk management or market operations.

The contract offered will be short-term ESCB/IO, the appointment being for at least 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person, extendable to up to 36 months.
