Your team
You will be part of the Language Services Division in the Directorate General Communications. We provide translation, editing, proofreading and terminology services in all EU languages to support the ECB’s communication activities and to help the ECB comply with its reporting obligations. We also offer advice on linguistic matters.
In your role as English Translator in the Board and Media Section you will be part of a team editing, translating and proofreading a wide range of texts for both expert audiences and the general public. Our work includes speeches, interviews, press releases, social media posts and regular publications, as well as content for the ECB’s multilingual websites aimed at making its work accessible to non-expert readers. You will also work closely with others in our Directorate General as part of cross-divisional teams handling strategic communication projects or urgent tasks.

Your role
As an English Translator you will:
- contribute to the editing and/or drafting of high-level speeches and interviews, press releases, website content, blogs, video scripts and social media posts;
- edit and proofread a wide range of other English-language materials published by the ECB in the fields of banking supervision and monetary policy;
- produce translations into English from one or more official EU languages of texts related to the communication activities of our Board members;
- quality-check/revise editing and translation work produced both externally and in-house;
- contribute to clear writing initiatives, the ECB’s English Style Guide and the provision of linguistic and drafting advice.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in languages or another relevant field, such as economics or law (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, at least two full years’ documented experience as a professional translator/editor or a track record of performing the tasks required by the position;
- a C2 mastery level of English and a C2 mastery level of another official language of the EU according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- professional experience in drafting impactful content for websites and social media and/or in editing/translating high-level speeches and interviews;
- experience in translating using computer-assisted translation tools such as Trados Studio and an interest in machine translation;
- a sound knowledge of MS Office, e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- familiarity with the ECB, other EU institutions, international organisations and/or the financial sector.

The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for 24 months starting in spring 2025.
Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
