Our Directorate has about 120 staff preparing policy positions on European and global issues for the ECB/Eurosystem/European System of Central Banks. We are currently working on the economic response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, deepening Economic and Monetary Union, issues related to Brexit and aspects of the ECB’s accountability obligations towards the European Parliament. Our regular tasks include the preparation of EU meetings, notably of the European Council, the Eurogroup, ECOFIN Council and the committees which prepare these meetings. The Division is also in charge of all contacts between the ECB and the European Parliament regarding both central banking and supervisory tasks.

In your role as Economist, you will join a team of about 20 members of staff responsible for maintaining working relations with, and monitoring the activities of, the EU institutions listed above and engaging in policy and analytical work related to EU policies and institutional affairs. You will be part of one of the Division’s five teams: the EU Meetings team, the European Parliament team, the EU Policies and EMU Economic Governance team, and the Banking Union and CMU/Post-Brexit team. You will work closely with various business areas across the ECB.

  • represent the ECB at external meetings at technical level.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to work close to the frontline of policymaking in high-level EU fora and to deepen your understanding of EU policies and inter-institutional relations. We maintain a collaborative and dynamic working environment for interdisciplinary teams of highly motivated experts. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
