Your team
You will be part of the Supply Side, Labour and Surveillance Division in the Directorate General Economics. Our work covers a broad range of topical issues, including structural trend and labour market analysis, potential growth and productivity drivers, corporate vulnerabilities, country surveillance, mission work and EU governance. An area of particular focus is the macroeconomic impact of climate change and digitalisation, including related policy choices.
In your role as Economist, you will be part of a highly motivated, multicultural and diverse team of more than 30 people. You will support the Division in providing high-quality economic analysis and advice to inform monetary policy discussions and policy positions for international and EU meetings and fora, in close cooperation with other business areas and external stakeholders.

Your role
As an Economist you will:
- work in a team in one or more of our areas of expertise;
- prepare and possibly coordinate economic analysis and policy positions for the decision-making bodies of the Eurosystem;
- identify analytical or modelling gaps;
- monitor and forecast macroeconomic developments in euro area economies;
- contribute to the ECB’s policy-related briefings and external communications, including speeches and publications;
- represent the ECB externally in relevant working groups or conferences.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in economics or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
- experience in conducting regular analysis in at least one of the Division’s areas of responsibility and expertise, such as labour market and supply side issues (including climate change and digitalisation), country surveillance and EU governance;
- sound analytical skills and capabilities, including familiarity with state-of-the-art quantitative, modelling or econometric techniques or microdata-based research, as reflected in your publication record;
- excellent communication skills paired with a dynamic and open-minded personality;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- experience in drafting high-quality, policy-sensitive and relevant briefings at short notice;
- a proven ability to present complex analytical dossiers in simple language, and/or to coordinate activities and manage projects in the Division’s areas of expertise;
- a PhD in economics or another relevant field.

The contract offered will be short-term ESCB/IO, the appointment being for 12 months, with the possibility of extending the contract up to 36 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person.
