Your team

You will be part of the Digital Euro Directorate within the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments. The Directorate is responsible for the digital euro preparation phase, which will focus on further preparing for the development of a digital euro and building on the findings from our investigation phase.

You will work in the Product Proposition Division, which is responsible for (a) defining a best-in-class user experience for digital euro payments through user journeys; (b) contributing to the development of efficient end-to-end digital euro processes; (c) refining the proposed use cases by specifying the functional and non-functional requirements; and (d) working on the specifications for the offline digital euro.

The Division will manage the project activities related to the value proposition and user journeys for consumers, merchants and intermediaries for all agreed use cases, including person-to-person (P2P)/e-commerce and point-of-sale (POS). The Division will therefore contribute, among other things, to project activities related to digital financial inclusion, the digital euro compensation model,  the digital euro impact on financial intermediaries and ecological footprint aspects.

The Division is composed of four teams. We intend to recruit team leads for three of the four teams with this vacancy.

In addition to leading your team, you will interact with a variety of stakeholders, including Eurosystem colleagues and external market participants, and liaise with experts and specialists from other ECB business areas.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As Team Lead of the Intermediaries team you will manage the team carrying out the preparatory work to define the digital euro proposition for intermediaries, including the digital euro compensation model, the roll-out approach and establishing how a digital euro would fit into the payment ecosystem.

As Team Lead of the Online Use Case team you will manage the team carrying out the preparatory work to defining the digital euro use cases, including standards and requirements for P2P, POS and e-commerce digital euro payments.

As Team Lead of the Offline team you will manage the team carrying out the preparatory work to defining the requirements and specifications for the offline digital euro, for both POS and P2P use cases.

You will be responsible for managing and guiding your team in line with the plan for the preparation phase of the digital euro project.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • leading the definition of a best-in-class user experience for digital euro payments and the development of efficient end-to-end digital euro processes;
  • refining the proposed use cases by leading the work on the specification of the functional and non-functional requirements;
  • liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including Eurosystem national central banks, governance groups and market participants;
  • managing the day-to-days tasks of team members, ensuring deliverables are achieved and milestones are met;
  • coordinating with other Team Leads to ensure cross-functional support is provided in the Division and the Directorate General.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to shape the future of central bank money for all citizens and firms in the euro area and, in doing so, support the digitalisation of the euro area economy. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Essential:

  • in addition to the above, a minimum of five years’ professional experience in retail payments;
  • experience in managing teams and/or in coordinating people, projects or transversal activities;
  • proven analytical skills and experience in drafting concise and clear notes and reports;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • for the Team Lead of the Intermediaries team, experience in working with payment service providers to implement payment solutions or schemes, including revenue models;
  • for the Team Lead of the Online Use Case team, experience with working on standards for front-end payment solutions;
  • for the Team Lead of the Offline team, focused experience in developing an offline payment product or research into possible offline payment solutions, including proof of concepts;
  • experience in the design, development or roll-out of digital payment products, retail payments market infrastructures or project management;
  • experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure their needs are addressed while ensuring project deliverables are achieved.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs. You are skilled at encouraging people to develop their abilities and are able to build up high-performing teams.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.

You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
