Your team

You will be part of the digital euro programme team in the Directorate General Market Infrastructures and Payments, which initiated the digital euro preparation phase in November 2023. During this phase the focus will be on preparing further for the development of a digital euro, building on the findings obtained during the investigation phase.

In your role as Head of Division for Positioning and Outreach, you will head a team responsible for positioning, branding, outreach and communication for the digital euro. This will entail developing the communication strategy in greater detail and executing it during the next phase, the objective being to foster the public’s understanding of and trust in the digital euro. Outreach and communication will support stakeholder management activities and will also seek to communicate directly with European citizens and merchants. You will also be responsible to develop a branding, positioning and communication strategy and plan to prepare for a potential issuance of a digital euro, with a view to supporting the product launch of the digital euro in all euro area countries.

To this effect, you will be responsible for building a team that would be able to deliver on the work for the positioning and branding of a digital euro and will deliver the related strategy and plan for a potential product launch, should the decision be taken to issue a digital euro.
You will work closely with the Directorate General Communications to ensure alignment with overall ECB communication messages and the effective use of ECB communication channels and tools. You will report to the Digital Euro Programme manager.

Your role As Head of Division for Positioning and Outreach you will:

  • develop and execute all branding, positioning, outreach and communication activities for the digital euro during the preparation phase;

  • build and manage a team of positioning, branding, outreach and communication experts and specialists;
  • liaise closely with both internal Eurosystem colleagues and external stakeholders to have a solid foundation for the communication and positioning plan;
  • manage the budget for both human resources and external consultancy.

The position offers you a unique opportunity to shape the future of central bank money by making it available also in digital form to all citizens and firms in the euro area and, in doing so, support the digitalisation of the euro area economy. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

  • in addition to the above, a minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in marketing and/or communication, preferably in the payments, financial or services sectors, of which five should be in a managerial position;
  • experience in cooperating with and guiding external and internal stakeholders and suppliers;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Desired:

  • experience in (or of working closely with) the public sector.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and can draw on the strengths of a diverse team to get the best results. You support the efforts of team members to develop their abilities and are able to build up high-performing teams. You facilitate change and can articulate strategic priorities and scenarios for your team.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.
