Your team


You will be part of the Digital Security Services Division in the Directorate General Information Systems. Our division, including over 30 members of staff, safeguards ECB against internal and external digital threats, promotes a culture of digital security to protect ECB’s digital assets and provides technical controls, mature security assurance and operational processes. We are currently embarking on a major overhaul of our technology and processes to make our Security Operations Centre (SOC) more resilient. To support this process, we are looking for a Digital Security Specialist to join a team of eight highly motivated and professional digital security experts.

You will initially focus on cyber-threat hunting and detection using pattern recognition techniques in the analysis of large datasets. In close collaboration with the rest of the SOC team and the Security Engineering team, you will work on developing innovative approaches to build and improve intrusion detection capabilities.

Your role

As a Digital Security Specialist you will:
  • develop and continuously improve the quality of detection use cases with a focus on data analysis and pattern recognition;
  • identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex security datasets using statistical techniques;
  • develop data dashboards, graphs and visualisations;
  • carry out applied research on innovative methods to improve detection capabilities;
  • continuously monitor the relevance of deployed detection use cases;
  • support the resolution of security incidents, including handling incidents, carrying out computer forensic analysis, executing mitigation plans or providing assessments and recommendations.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technological, engineering, mathematics or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of two years’ experience in a digital security-related operational role; 
  • a sound understanding of network architectures, networking protocols, operating system internals and attackers’ tactics;
  • knowledge of the current cyber-threat landscape, familiarity with cyber-threat reports from security vendors, experience with OSINT tools and analysis;
  • ability to integrate, query and manipulate large datasets for analytical purposes, also by using common scripting languages;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 
  • experience with Splunk, ElasticSearch, or similar, would be a distinct advantage;
  • a good understanding of malware mechanics;
  • familiarity with tools such as Metasploit, Sysinternals Suite, Wireshark, Redline;
