Your team

You will be part of the Digital Security Services Division in the Directorate General Information Systems, comprising over 30 IT security professionals. The Division provides security governance, assurance, engineering and operational services to protect the ECB against cyber threats.
Within the Division, you will be part of the Security Governance team. Together with eight colleagues, you will ensure that information technology at the ECB is secure and as user-friendly as possible. You will help to raise security awareness at the ECB, and you will provide guidance to colleagues in other divisions on digital security. Managing digital security risks is an integral part of overall corporate governance at the ECB, and you will work closely with related functions such as operational risk management, physical security, or information management.

Your role

As a Digital Security Expert you will:
  • perform security risk analyses and assessments together with other IT and business experts;
  • identify opportunities to mitigate risk and produce actionable security improvement proposals;
  • advise ECB business areas on how to strike the right balance between functionality, usability and security;
  • draft security policies and standards;
  • communicate on digital security topics in an interesting and engaging way, participating in the team’s security awareness initiatives;
  • work with colleagues from national central banks to foster digital security within the European System of Central Banks.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ experience working in the field of information security, with tasks and responsibilities relevant to the role described above;
  • a solid understanding and proven experience of applying the concepts and methods of digital security risk management;
  • sound technical digital security knowledge;
  • excellent drafting skills;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 
  • experience in communicating digital security topics to experts and non-experts;
  • experience in drafting security policies and standards;
  • experience in working in the financial sector or another regulated environment;
  • experience with information security and risk management standards and tools;
  • security certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, CEH, OSCP.

Further information

The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for one year as of the exact starting date of the selected person.
Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
