Your team
You will be part of the team that will be in charge of executing the investigation phase of the Eurosystem project to develop a digital euro. The digital euro would be an electronic form of central bank money accessible to citizens and firms – just like banknotes, but in a digital form. The objectives of the project investigation phase are, amongst other things, to determine (i) use cases and functional design; and (ii) key features for establishing a digital euro as a widespread means of payment.
In your role as Digital Security Expert in the digital euro project team, you will contribute to the analysis of the digital security needs related to a digital euro. As a member of a Eurosystem team made up of 52 experts across the ECB, you will benefit from the diversity of perspectives that this provides. The team will be responsible for executing the tasks foreseen in the project investigation phase and it will support the Eurosystem project governance bodies.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.
Your role
As Digital Security Expert, you will:
- conduct analytical work and define conceptual security requirements for the technical implementation of a digital euro;
- participate in translating security requirements into concrete security measures;
- support the evaluation of the security implementation in a prototype;
- assist the project team in striking the appropriate balance between usability, security and the privacy aspects of a digital euro.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to explore ongoing technological innovation in the financial industry, particularly in the field of payments, and to contribute to the design of a new form of central bank money. As a member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to improve your knowledge of the payment needs and preferences of citizens and businesses, your awareness of the industrial organisation of the payments market and its relevance for the economy, and your understanding of ongoing technological innovation in the field of payments. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in IT security, computer science or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, at least three years’ professional experience in IT security governance and risk management;
- excellent analytical and drafting skills;
- experience in presenting complex functional and/or technical topics in a clear and concise manner to internal and external audiences;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- sound understanding of (central bank) digital currencies or of the business and technical features of retail payment solutions;
- knowledge of payment technologies and the use cases they can support;
- experience in developing and drafting use cases and user requirements.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.
You are aware of your strengths and areas for development and know what motivates you to perform at your highest level. You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the objectives of this position.
