Your team

You will be part of the Design & Digital Division in the Directorate General Communications. Our Directorate General has around 250 staff responsible for communicating the official views of the ECB. Through our digital channels, we engage with the public and media, informing them about the tasks and mission of the ECB. We also support members of the Executive Board in their communication activities.

In your role as Digital Communication Specialist, you will be part of the Web Team, which consists of four members of staff responsible for the ECB, Banking Supervision and European Systemic Risk Board websites. The Web Team ensures that content is up to date, in alignment with the ECB’s communication strategy and published in accordance with pre-defined time schedules. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, gathering their requirements and developing solutions which reflect the principles of best practice communication.

Your role

As Digital Communication Specialist you will:

  • manage and optimise our institutional websites; 
  • ensure website content is up to date, relevant and in alignment with our communication strategy, and that it meets user needs;
  • conduct regular audits to maintain the quality and accuracy of content,  ensuring that it complies with web accessibility guidelines and data protection regulations;
  • conduct persona research and web usability testing to enhance user experience;
  • collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute website projects;
  • keep up to date on the latest industry trends and technologies so you are able to suggest innovative strategies and improvements.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential: 

  •  a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in information technology, computer science, communications or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of two years of experience in the field of web communications, with a focus on large websites; 
  • sound understanding of information architecture, SEO principles, web analytics and web usability testing;
  • experience in website content management systems such as Sitecore, AEM, Drupal or Smoke Signals;
  •  familiarity with web accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and data protection regulations (GDPR/EUDPR);
  • experience of some of the following webmaster tools: Google Trends, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google Optimize, Piwik, Piano Analytics, AddSearch or Myra;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired: 
  • an ability to transform technical content into usable content, regardless of the nature of the subject; 
  • an ability to draft content from scratch, following a storytelling approach;
  • familiarity with the production workflow for publications; 
  • experience of project management tools and techniques.

Working modalities

You may need to work in an on-call regime at weekends and during non-standard working hours.

Further information

The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person.

Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
