Your team

You will be part of the senior management team in the Directorate General Statistics. Our General Directorate has about 350 staff providing statistical products, services and a whole range of aggregated and disaggregated data to inform policy decisions at the central banking and supervisory side of the ECB and the public at large, in close collaboration with the ESCB, National Competent Authorities, Eurostat, the banking industry and other international bodies.
The position offers excellent opportunities to be involved in the elaboration of policy advice and in projects of high relevance for the Directorate General and the ECB as a whole. You will be heading a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

You would join at a very interesting and challenging time, as we are working on further modernising the ECB, ESCB and SSM data culture and management, improving it’s fitness for a digital and globalised world with fast financial innovation and develop new European statistics, based on the rich multipurpose micro datasets now available.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply, irrespective of your gender, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Deputy Director General Statistics, you will:

  • together with the Director General and the other Deputy Director General, lead the business area in its strategic orientation and planning, work programmes, workforce and resource planning, people management and progress monitoring;
  • oversee the preparation of dossiers for the Statistics Committee, the Executive Board and the Governing Council, as well as for other ESCB and international committees and advisory groups with participants from central banks, statistical offices and supervisory and financial institutions;
  • foster a collaborative working atmosphere and an engaged, agile and healthy workforce;
  • embrace and leverage diversity in pursuing business goals;
  • align efforts and initiatives regarding the business area’s role in defining, promoting and applying international standards and methodologies across diverse statistical datasets, in order to produce high-quality, multi-purpose granular and aggregated statistics while also taking into account new innovations and technologies;
  • represent the business area and the ECB by participating in and/or chairing a wide range of internal and external committees, working groups and high-level fora, and by maintaining good working relationships with reporting agents, ESCB central banks, users and other stakeholders, including a wide range of international organisations and regulatory and standard setting bodies.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to formulate policy advice and to be involved in projects of high relevance for the Directorate General and the ECB as a whole, as well as to steer and implement the business area’s strategy in the context of digitalisation, a changing regulatory landscape and globalisation. You will be leading a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
