Your team

You will be part of the Data Protection Officer function. Data protection is about protecting the freedoms and fundamental rights of individuals with regard to the processing of their personal data. The DPO reports to the Executive Board and is entrusted with the task of ensuring, in an independent manner, the internal application of the Data Protection Regulation (Reg. EU 1725/2018). We are currently working on cloud computing, SupTech, Covid-19 measures, artificial intelligence, digital euro, and many more cutting-edge projects. 

In your role as Data Protection Expert, you will be part of a dynamic and small team with enthusiastic professionals responsible for providing data protection advice to our colleagues, raise awareness, investigate matters and incidents related to data protection, act as a liaison with the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) and conduct data protection audits. We work closely with all Business Areas processing personal data and DPO’s from NCB’s and EU institutions.

Your role

As a Data Protection Expert you will:
  • manage with a high degree of autonomy tasks assigned to you;
  • engage and collaborate with staff from other business areas with a result oriented approach;
  • support the DPO in preparing meetings, guidance, presentations and legal analysis;
  • provide legal advice on requests for advice on general questions, transfers of personal data outside the EEA, data protection impact assessments, data subject access requests, new technologies and records of processing activities;
  • foster a collaborative and supportive relationship with the other team members and the data protection coordinators;
  • raise awareness about data protection and provide training at various internal forums and meetings.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in law or another relevant field  (click here for details on degree equivalences) ;
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of 4 or more years of full-time experience in the field of data protection; 
  • sound understanding of information security and technical-organisational measures to ensure protection of personal data;
  • professional experience in Data Protection Impact Assessments, data subject access requests, transfers of personal data outside the EEA and data protection in procurements;
  • experience in legal research and analysis;
  • legal drafting skills;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desirable:
  • experience in implementing the data protection principles of Regulation (EU) 2018/1725;
  • a recognised data protection certification (issued by e.g. EIPA, IAPP);
  • experience working in EU institutions or agencies.
