Your team
You will be part of the Public Communication Division in the Directorate General Communications. Our Directorate General has approximately 200 staff communicating with the public and the media about the ECB’s work. We oversee digital communications, media relations and public affairs, and we strive to make the ECB more accessible to different audiences by, for example, reaching out to the public via the ECB’s websites and social media accounts.
In your role as Public Outreach Specialist, you will be part of the Visits, Enquiries and Protocol team, which has around ten staff. In addition to replying to requests for information from the public and running the ECB Visitor Centre, our team provides protocol advice and ensures that protocol is observed for high-level visits, meetings and events attended by members of the ECB’s decision-making bodies.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.
Your role
As a Public Outreach Specialist you will:
- organise and facilitate high-level visits from, for instance, national representatives to members of the Executive Board and the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board;
- oversee the logistics of internal and external meetings, such as those held by the Governing Council and the Supervisory Board, acting as a point of liaison for members of the decision-making bodies;
- manage all aspects of protocol for large-scale ECB events attended by members of the Executive Board and/or the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board (such as the high-level Forums on Central Banking and Banking Supervision) and for local engagement events;
- advise on various protocol-related issues as required;
- ensure all applicable protocol for visits and events is followed and prepare necessary background material;
- contribute to further developing the ECB’s protocol function by reviewing and improving existing processes, developing new planning and reporting tools and by working in close collaboration with other EU institutions’ protocol offices.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to build on your protocol skills, help shape the ECB’s protocol function and contribute to the success of visits, meetings and conferences attended by members of the ECB’s decision-making bodies and other high-level dignitaries. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in protocol, communications, international relations, political science or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, proven experience in protocol;
- a minimum of three years’ experience organising high-level events and meetings;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU (ideally French or German), according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in a protocol-related field;
- experience working in protocol at an EU institution (or a national institution), including a thorough knowledge of the related procedures and practices;
- a good knowledge of economics, including central banking and/or banking supervision, and European affairs.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.
You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the objectives of this position.
